International Studies Teacher Education Project (ISTEP) promotes global education in San Diego and Imperial Valley schools through professional development for educators, learning opportunities for K-12 students, and collaborations among San Diego State University and other community partners.
Our Intercultural Ambassadors program is your classroom’s passport to the world! This extraordinarily successful program builds genuine relationships between K-12 students and college students from other countries while motivating young learners to explore more about our world.
Future Teachers & Study Abroad
ISTEP is proud to support SDSU undergraduates who are future teachers and participate in study abroad. As these future teachers learn about and develop their own global competence, they are also creating lesson plans, delivered in the Fall, that promote global awareness in K-12 students.
San Diego State University Lecture Series
SDSU offers a wide range of public lectures that are open for teachers to attend. This semester hear from experts in the field of contemporary global issues as they discuss the U.S. and its moral responsibility in world affairs; topics include Women and Africa, Britain in Kenya, and the U.S. War in Vietnam.
Program to Advance Cultural Exchange
How can we improve cross-cultural understanding and exchange? ISTEP would like to facilitate learning and communications between cultural groups and educators in order to benefit K-12 students. The new program will launch in 2015-16 and we are seeking teacher input.
